Solar Eclipse Viewing

  • Innisfree Garden 362 Tyrrel Road Millbrook, NY, 12545 United States (map)

Join us at Innisfree on Monday afternoon and experience this phenomenal cosmic event in a relaxed and beautiful setting. Little outside noise penetrates this natural bowl so the incredible effect an eclipse has on wildlife will be evident, even if migrating birds are only beginning to return. We know this is last minute. We know we’ve just started spring clean-up in the garden. But New York State won’t experience another total (or in our case, total-ish) solar eclipse until 2079 and then 2144, so seize the day and come to Innisfree. Knock on wood, the forecast looks fine!

Like our meteor shower viewing last summer, ADVANCE REGISTRATION IS STRICTLY REQUIRED, and ticketholders will be checked in at the front gate. Bring a blanket or yoga mat, layered clothing (after sitting for an hour or two, even temperatures in the 50s might feel chilly), maybe water, and snacks. In Millbrook, the eclipse will occur from 2:11 PM to 4:36 PM. We will have eclipse glasses for you to use, but feel free to bring your own as well.

CITIZEN SCIENCE: NASA'S ECLIPSE SOUNDSCAPES
Wherever you end up watching the eclipse, consider participating in Eclipse Soundscapes, a simple, all-ages citizen science project that NASA is running. No special equipment is needed, just your senses. Spend a short time on their project website HERE for all the training you’ll need. If you come to Innisfree on Monday afternoon, we’ll have English and Spanish versions of the Eclipse Soundscapes data collection sheet printed out and ready for use.
